Can someone
credibly, sensibly, logically, and seriously explain to me the
intelligence behind teaching this "new way" of doing math???
It seems
obvious to me that there are way too many steps to figure out the answer.
You add up the number in the box to get the answer.
But wait, how do you or where do you get the numbers in which to manipulate?
The two original number are there because that's the problem but where do the
others come from?
And what if you pick the wrong ones?
Now wouldn't that mess up the whole process?
Too many steps and too many places to make a mistake.
In addition, (pun intended), it takes much longer than the tried and true "old
fashioned" method.
If I was a business owner, I would ban this method because of these issues. Hey
time is $Money$
And this is just subtraction!!! What about addition and division and multiplication???
In my opinion, it is obvious to the most casual observer that this Common Core method is STUPID!!!

The only logical answer is that
Juanita must know how many friends she has and the amount of stickers she
already has. We, being the readers, will NEVER determine the numerical
answer,
which is asked because we don't know the number amounts!!!
If the teacher giving this to her class expects the kids to give the numerical answer, she should be fired. Which is a good reason why they SHOULD have "Pay Per Performance" clauses in their contracts.
As I've said in the past,

From these few examples, there is no wondering why other countries are surpassing the US in math!
