Our Repeater Site

On a very windy day and
with the expert help of Dain, AA7YE,
the Comet dual band antenna found a
new home atop one of the 100 foot towers!
THANKS Dain!
January 14, 2001. A trip to the site to perform minor repairs.

Luckily not much
wind!
Nope, not stuck, just not enough
traction weight to make it all the way
to the site.

FIRE SEASON!
In 1989 Boise area hams were
asked to provide assistance with communications during the Lowman Idaho fire.
The following pictures were taken at the Deadwood camp ground just south and
west of Lowman, on the Garden Valley road. The National Guard had a road block
setup there preventing anyone's passage into the danger area. We provided VHF
and HF links out of the canyon as their systems along with the county sheriff's
could not provide adequate communications.
In some of the pictures our 40 meter dipole is visible as well as a 2 meter
beam.
As a side note, the 2 meter beam had to be reoriented throughout the day, as the
signal path through the canyon changed, just as the theory about vhf
propagation
in the books explain!
Because of the enormous size of this fire, the FCC designated a restricted
frequency on 40 and 80 for fire message handling.

These pictures are of almost the same angle, the most
smoky one was taken in late morning while the smoke was still condensed from the
cool night temperatures. The center picture was taken in mid afternoon. The
clear one was taken early evening after the canyon warmed up and the smoke
cleared.

These also were taken mid morning. The dim point of
light is actually the sun!

Another team of fire fighters in route to do a very
hard and dangerous job!
Thank You for all your efforts!
If you were involved with
this effort and have any pictures that you can scan,
I would very much like to post them here! Please send me an e-mail!
Thanks!
